Today is grocery day. While trying to make out a grocery list and decide on what to cook next week, my daughter and I got into a discussion. It started with her asking me if I realized that everything thing on my list for meals next week was foreign food. I didn’t realize it!
But looked and saw she was right… let’s see… Spaghetti, Polish Sausage and Saurkraut, Swedish Meatballs… wait here’s one! No wait Pizza’s italian, lol. Meatloaf? Nope, I checked, it’s been around forever in various countries with just slightly varying ingredients…. Hamburgers! Ok, Mongolian and Turkic tribes are the ones who started shredding low-quality beef to make it more digestible, and Germans are the ones who started using ground beef to make a cheap “steak”, but Americans were the first to put it between two pieces of bread, although four states claim to have started it. So I guess the hamburger as we know it is of American origin. But I can’t for the life of me think of any other foods that originated right here in America, by Americans. I did find something interesting while researching though… Spaghetti actually started in China, not Italy. Just leave out the red sauce and add differen’t things. If anyone can tell me of some actual AMERICAN dishes, please do so. I’d be pleased to know of at least 5. Oh by the way, I’m not including AMERICAN-INDIAN food, HA!

It amazes me sometimes, the things people love. I just ran across a blog owned by a person (I believe a woman) who loves oranges. Loves them so much she creates orange art, LOTS of it.

What can I say? I grow tired of the same design quickly? I saw the cheese image while I was hungry and it appealed to me? I’m never satisfied? All of the above. I’m back from my little trip to Gibson, Tennessee. It was great to see my friends again, great to see the entire family of 9 kids and uncountable grandkids actually! We had too much fun and didn’t want to leave so soon. We may go back in a few weeks for their annual Strawberry Festival. Congratulations again to Frank and Nancy Webb on their 50th anniversary (Hi again to Frank, I bet he’ll stumble across this post soon). While I was there Frank and I were talking about getting a site up for his church (literally his church, he’s the pastor), so that will likely be my next web design project if he decides to go ahead with it. I just love starting new sites, and I’ve never done one for a church!

Well ok not real shares, but shares in this blog, on BlogShares - I bought 500 So buy some of mine, make me hypothetically rich! It’s not a bad idea actually, because the success of real world companies is made or lost on the stock exchange (at least those that are public). I think there might be something odd with it though, because take streamsofgold for example, blogshares says that it has 0 incoming links and 1 outgoing link. This is nonsense of course, I have a lot of outgoing links, and on all of my sites I link to streamsofgold, so there should be a lot of incoming links. I’ll have to dig deeper.

That’s the only reason I can think of for why I would ever be awake before Rich. In the past I’ve signed on at noon or close to noon and Rich has said “Are you just now getting up? GOOD LORD I’VE BEEN UP SINCE 6:30″ or something to that effect. It’s nearing 8 am now, and I’ve been up since 5:15. Yes, a.m. , but only because I had to get my daughter off to a field trip. Ok, so this is what it’s like online this early. Not many people around. Diane was here when I got here, but she had to take her son to school. So who do I talk to now? This blog, apparently. Enough of this nonsense! I’m going back to bed! As Mel noted earlier in another post we are reworking a site for some friends of mine with a cycle shop. There is still a lot to do and things to add but the major work has been done and the switchover has been made- See here~ We made several logos and used different types of fonts for the address and phone number and loaded them on the different pages for the owners to view and choose from. Mel made a few and I made a few and this morning I showed them all to our clients. They chose the top half of one that Mel made, and the bottom half of another that I made. I combined these two and we now have the logo, but it just shows how well Mel and I work together, and reinforces my thoughts that she is the other half of my brain It’s amazing how much we can accomplish together being in different states, with our only means of communication the written word, via MSN Messenger and e-mail, although we do talk occasionally on the telephone.
When we met in person for the first time in Denver in 2003 it wasn’t an hour or more before we were finishing each other’s sentences. It’s not very often in this life that you find someone you are so totally sympatico with and I’m very glad that Mel and I bumped into each other in the great vastness of cyber-space.
