We’ve been having trouble with our central air unit all summer. My brother is an electrician and hvac man, and he’s been coming out and fixing it. Some kind of problem with the wires burning through. After about the third time he showed my husband how to fix it himself and left him with plenty of replacement wires, and said it probably wouldn’t last much longer. He reminded my husband that everytime he fixes it he to flip the breakers out there to reset it.

It went out again a few more times, and my husband fixed it each time, although it took quite a bit longer than it took my brother. A few days ago it happened yet again, and right after my husband fixed it (bless his heart) and flipped the breakers, exactly half the electricity in the house went out. He came in the house and saw it was rather dark, and asked what happened. I told him I don’t know, what did you do? He said he just did what he was told. He went around the house in a bit of a panic flipping all the breakers (we have four breaker boxes total). Nothing worked. I called my brother, who said “It sounds like you blew a transformer or something, call the electric company.” I called them and amazingly they were here within an hour.

The electric guy confirmed it, we blew a transformer. They had another here within the next hour, and went about replacing it. They also had to replace ALL the wires outside, the one leading to our house and others. They just couldn’t imagine what had caused it! We kept our mouths shut. Before they were finished, my brother came over and replaced whatever was causing the wires to burn (I know nothing about air units, obviously). The electricity was restored, the air works fine now. But that night my brother couldn’t resist calling my husband and saying “YOU REALLY F***’ed THAT ONE UP DIDNT YOU!” hehe.
