My husband is a house painter, and for the first time in 5 years, he’s out of work and has been for nearly 2 months. So we’ve been straggling along, using up our savings, relying on my sporadic pay. Just when I got down to not even enough money to fill up my car with gas, my dad called me out of the blue, with his strong vibes that he’s always had, and said “I’m calling because I got the feeling you need money.” My dad has never said this to me, lol, never mentions money. I was a bit taken aback. I told him, well you’re right, I’m broke, Mike hasn’t worked in nearly two months and I haven’t had much work either, but Mike is supposed to start a small job tomorrow, that will hold us over, we’ll be fine.” He asked if I was sure I didn’t need him to send me a check. I told him no that’s fine, we’re fine, thanks for offering.”

I haven’t had to borrow money for several years, just because I usually have a little extra saved up, and people in my family come to ME to borrow money, usually. Here’s the thing though, my dad does have money. About ten years ago he filed a malpractice suit against the US Government because of the VA hospital really screwing him up during a surgery, and rightly so he was awarded enough money to retire and live very comfortably the rest of his life. So why do I find it so difficult to accept any money from him? Because…

I really feel like DIRT when I have to accept help in monetary form. I have been known to be in a starving condition before accepting money. The only time I’ve accepted money in the past few years was when one of my friends (you know who you are) sent some money via paypal without asking me after she had a little too much to drink. Not even sure if she remembers it, lol. And why do I feel that way about taking money from anyone, even my father? Because….

of the way my father raised me. I wonder if he did that on purpose, so I wouldn’t ask him for money when I grew up? lol
