David of Third World County alerts us to the fact that today is National Coffee Day (again).
Let’s talk about the beans that don’t make us fart. OH Excuse me! I’m a lady, and what I meant to say was “pass gaseous air.”
I love coffee, I must have coffee. I take mine with one sugar and one creamer, Coffeemate brand only! I’m not a frugal shopper, and everytime my mother is here she makes a pot of coffee and never fails to let me know that “The off-brand creamer is just as good.” Well, no it isn’t. It isn’t even close. I’ve tried it. As for the brand of coffee I buy, usually Foldger’s but sometimes I get a small pack of the flavored coffee too, trying a different flavor everytime. I used to buy the beans whole and grind them up myself, but when my house burned down some years ago, my coffee grinder melted to nothing, and I keep meaning to get one since they’re only about $15 bucks, but for some reason I never think of it when I’m at Wal-Mart. Maybe next pay-day I’ll stick a post-it to my forehead that says “Remind me to get a coffee grinder.”

Yeh, but when you budget a coffee grinder purchase, budget for 2. One for your coffee and one for spices and such. I mean, cumin seeds (bought in the cello packs you can usually find in the Mexican spices rack well apart from the bottled spices in most grocery stores in our neck o’ the woods) ground fresh in a spice grinder (reserved-for-spices coffee grinder) are MUCH more tasty than the pre-ground junk. And until you’ve ground your cinamon fresh from sticks, you’ve probably not really tasted cinamon.
That said, have you tried the “Hawaiian Blend” whole bean coffees at Sam’s? Much better than Folgers, IMO, and approaching some of the better pre-packaged coffees. Approaching.
I’ve had to tone down my coffee expenditures somewhat cos we ARE in America’s Third World County, ya know. But the mail order Gevalia ain’t half bad.
David, will you marry me?
hehe
