My daughter Sara, in the 9th grade, is so ready for school to be out for the summer. She took gym this year to get it out of the way for the rest of high school, as she only needed one more credit in P.E. to graduate. I knew she didn’t like gym class, but I’m just now, near the end of the school year, finding out why. She tells me they don’t do anything in there. Sometimes they excercise, sometimes they just sit there and watch various sports practices.
I remember not liking P.E. also in high school, but that’s just because I was lazy… at least we DID things. I told her that every few weeks, we were taught something else: Soccer, basketball, volleyball, baseball, track… we even went bowling every day once for two weeks. Sara couldn’t believe it, she said she would actually LIKE gym if they did things like that. Wish I had known this at the beginning of the school year - I could have raised a stink.

I always hated PE too, but managed to get my PE credit in basketball even though I didn’t even practice through the season. Worked my butt off in spring training though, but didn’t play the following year. Heh, got an A. I just wanted a letter jacket, but I sucked so bad at sports that I finally had to letter in Band. I’m proof that being tall does NOT make you a good basketball player.
Back on topic, when I was in jr high, we rarely did anything during the winter months other than sit in the bleachers and watch the girl’s basketball team practice. 8th grade we did aerobics.
With the high epidemic of kids being overweight these days, how can they justify not having them do SOMETHING???
!!!FLASHBACK!!! AAAAhhhh! DODGBALL!
Sky’s right too.
We always did something in PE too. Archery was always one of my fav’s. Bowling was saved for the winter months. Sitting around doing nothing though that’s BS.
I didn’t like gym class either, but we did play sports, etc.
