I usually don’t post news articles here, but last night while I was at work and getting the paper ready to go online, an article caught my eye. I’m not going to post the whole article, but it was about this guy in Newport, Arkansas, who was hyped up on cocaine and ran his truck into a Hardee’s, killing 2 people and injuring 5. Here’s an excerpt, with the parts that really stood out to me in bold:

   Police said Nicholson was driving south on Arkansas 367 about 7 p.m. when he swerved across three lanes of traffic and went off the highway. The pickup then flattened a public telephone stand, narrowly missed a portable building that dispenses ice cubes, traveled 85 feet across a vacant lot and jumped two curbs before it plowed into the east side of the restaurant, police said. The truck went about 9 feet into the restaurant before stopping.

   The seven diners were sitting at a table about 10 feet from the east-side window. They got together weekly at different Newport restaurants and, this time, they were celebrating Parnell’s 60th birthday, which was Wednesday, according to Boyce.

   The seven were the only customers in the restaurant, police said. It was not known how many employees were inside, but no one else was hurt.

   Nicholson, who also was not injured, told police that he had bent over to reach his shoe while driving and lost control of the truck, Scudder said. He later submitted to a breath test, which indicated that he had not consumed alcohol, but he refused to take a urine test. During questioning, Scudder said, Nicholson made some remarks that gave police probable cause to search his truck and get a urine sample.
Nicholson submitted to the urine test after police obtained a warrant from a judge, the chief said.

   The affidavit filed in district court stated that Arkansas State Police Trooper Billy Caldron concluded that Nicholson was under the influence of cocaine based on a drug-assessment test.

OK, why the fuck was he trying to reach his shoe while driving? And how fast was he going to go across three lanes, flatten a telephone stand, go 85 more feet, jump two curbs and still plow 9 feet into the restaurant??? I know he was on coke, but wtf was he doing while his truck was going that far knocking down everything in it’s path… tying his shoe??? WTF? Anyway,

   Nicholson will be charged Friday morning in Jackson County District Court with two counts of manslaughter, four counts of second-degree battery, one count of third-degree battery and one count of second-degree criminal mischief, Prosecuting Attorney Henry Boyce of Newport said.

Also, DAMN! Can you imagine being the only people in a restaurant and you just happen to be sitting at the table that gets run over by a coke-head’s pickup truck? I mean… DAMN!
