So, the job I do really requires three people. Not three people every day, just three people in rotation, two at a time on Fri and Sat nights…. the other nights we can work alone. The reason it needs three people is just in case anyone wants to take off work or be sick or whatever, they can do that and the third person who only works two nights a week can fill in easily. But lately, well for quite some time now, there’s only been two of us. This job is a really hard position to fill for several reasons: 1. The hours suck unless you love the third shift, like I do. 2. You will never find someone who is experienced at this particular job, because it’s the only job like it in the state, pretty much. 3. Some people get the job, work a couple of weeks or less, and THINK that it’s really hard and that they will never learn it and what the hell were they thinking hiring her/him for this job.

BUT number 3 is really not the case. It just takes a good 2 months to really learn the job and a good 3 months to REALLY be able to work alone. But once you really learn it, you find out, hey this is a snap, and what was I scared of? Anyway, number 3 is what happened to the last girl they hired. She was there 3 weeks and never came back. A few weeks ago is the last we saw of her. That was a bummer too, because it took so long to find someone to hire. So I guess my boss decided to give a call to someone who used to work there, doing that job, ever since that job was even invented, or close to it. I had heard all about her anyway, she was a legend. Bossman asked her if she could come back and work two days a week for awhile. She agreed. She started this week and they wanted her to come in with me this week before working alone so that 1. she could get back into the swing of things and learn anything that’s changed and 2. she could teach me anything that they didn’t (because even they didn’t know everything she knew).

AND here’s the part I really wanted to tell you about, but I had to tell you all that first so you would get this: THANK GOD FOR HEIDI. She has shown me so many things (and here I thought I pretty much knew it all) that will make my job SO MUCH EASIER. Some of the things she showed me, I was just like… WHAT? Are you SERIOUS???? There were also some things that had changed since she was here before, that when I told her “we don’t have to do that anymore” or “look at this new easier way,” she also was like “THANK GOD.” But it’s just amazing the things I never knew about that she’s shown me in two days.

I hope she stays awhile (awhile=forever), although she does have a full time day job.

Well, I’ve never been paid for a link before, until yesterday. I mean I know some people make good bucks charging for links, I’ve just never been offered. I’ve told you all before about the mental problems of my mom. I’ll quickly tell you what’s been happening over the last few months before telling you the most recent.

She’s been in a deep depression and I’ve taken her to the doctor three times, each time she gets put on a different anti-depressant, and this last time on something to give her an appetite, even though she says she’s eating, she’s now down to about 85 pounds.

Here’s the thing, she lives with her boyfriend, and each time I’ve been to see her or to take her to the doctor, he was at work. I never have been able to speak to him, and he doesn’t have a phone, or a car. Today my sister went to see her, and her boyfriend was there, and from what he told her it’s much worse than we thought.

It isn’t just depression, she no longer knows how to DO things. Little things like washing the dishes or hanging laundry on a clothesline. Not that she has to do these things, her boyfrind Tim now does everything. But he told my sister that he tries to make her do things with him, just so that she will be doing SOMETHING besides sitting on the sofa or laying in bed. He said that he made her go outside with him to hang clothes on the line, and he said “Well come on then, what are you waiting for, start helping me.” and she stood there confused and said “But I don’t know how.” This is a woman whos been hanging clothes on a line her entire life. He said “What do you mean? You just hang them on the line with the pins.” and she replied, “But what pins, where are they, I don’t know what you want me to do.” (The pins were right there.) Then another day he tried to get her to wash three plates and two cups that were in the sink and she stood at the sink, confused for several minutes, then said that she didn’t understand what she was supposed to do with them.

He said that he cooks and makes her eat supper everynight, but that she won’t eat whatever lunch he leaves for her before he goes to work. He put a sandwich on the counter in a baggie one day, and when it was still there when he got home, and he asked her why she didn’t eat it, she said that she couldn’t get the baggie open, couldn’t figure out how.

My sister and I had no idea that it was anything more than depression, because we don’t live with her, we’re not around her, and as I said we never get to see Tim. My sister just lucked out that he was off work today when she went. The three times I took her to the doctor, I went in with her and told him what was wrong with her, but I didn’t know that she was having this other problem too, so the doctor has never been told that. I guess what I need to do now is go out later at night and try to catch Tim home, and ask him what day HE will be available to go with us to the doctor, so that he can go in with her and talk to the doctor.

Also, my sister asked him why he hasn’t gotten a phone hooked up, and he said that he had no idea that either my sister or I were going out to see her twice a week. He thought that none of us were coming to see her, my mom didn’t tell him. And he said he hasn’t had a phone turned on because he didn’t want to make it easier on us to NOT show up. In other words, if we could just call and hear mom say “sure im fine, ” then we never would go see her. Now that he knows we’ve been going while he’s working, he said he’ll have a phone turned on.

Another thing, my 3 brothers haven’t been to see her in forever, which pisses me off because we constantly tell them what bad shape she’s in. Seems like they don’t want to face it.

Can I get some feedback on this, please? Give me ideas about what different things could cause her to stop knowing how to do simple tasks. I don’t think it’s alzheimer’s, because she still knows everyone and still asks about her grandkids, etc. It just breaks my heart to realize now that she doesn’t understand how to do things she’s done her entire life.

I usually don’t post news articles here, but last night while I was at work and getting the paper ready to go online, an article caught my eye. I’m not going to post the whole article, but it was about this guy in Newport, Arkansas, who was hyped up on cocaine and ran his truck into a Hardee’s, killing 2 people and injuring 5. Here’s an excerpt, with the parts that really stood out to me in bold:

   Police said Nicholson was driving south on Arkansas 367 about 7 p.m. when he swerved across three lanes of traffic and went off the highway. The pickup then flattened a public telephone stand, narrowly missed a portable building that dispenses ice cubes, traveled 85 feet across a vacant lot and jumped two curbs before it plowed into the east side of the restaurant, police said. The truck went about 9 feet into the restaurant before stopping.

   The seven diners were sitting at a table about 10 feet from the east-side window. They got together weekly at different Newport restaurants and, this time, they were celebrating Parnell’s 60th birthday, which was Wednesday, according to Boyce.

   The seven were the only customers in the restaurant, police said. It was not known how many employees were inside, but no one else was hurt.

   Nicholson, who also was not injured, told police that he had bent over to reach his shoe while driving and lost control of the truck, Scudder said. He later submitted to a breath test, which indicated that he had not consumed alcohol, but he refused to take a urine test. During questioning, Scudder said, Nicholson made some remarks that gave police probable cause to search his truck and get a urine sample.
Nicholson submitted to the urine test after police obtained a warrant from a judge, the chief said.

   The affidavit filed in district court stated that Arkansas State Police Trooper Billy Caldron concluded that Nicholson was under the influence of cocaine based on a drug-assessment test.

OK, why the fuck was he trying to reach his shoe while driving? And how fast was he going to go across three lanes, flatten a telephone stand, go 85 more feet, jump two curbs and still plow 9 feet into the restaurant??? I know he was on coke, but wtf was he doing while his truck was going that far knocking down everything in it’s path… tying his shoe??? WTF? Anyway,

   Nicholson will be charged Friday morning in Jackson County District Court with two counts of manslaughter, four counts of second-degree battery, one count of third-degree battery and one count of second-degree criminal mischief, Prosecuting Attorney Henry Boyce of Newport said.
